I quit coffee for 5 days
Quitting caffeine can be very challenging. Especially when you are truly addicted to coffee like me. If you know me personally, you know that my day is not going to start without my favorite soy cappuccino first. I can drink a lot of cups of it through the day. It keeps me awake, energized and motivated to work. Anyway, I decided to challenge myself and quit coffee for a few days. How did it go? To be honest, it wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve done. It is so much easier for me to just not eat and drink coffee than no caffeine at all.

Quitting caffeine. The real challenge of I quit coffee for 5 days
Drinking coffee might be the addition that is really hard to get rid of. My first day without coffee was just horrible. It was Sunday and thankfully I was just resting and chilling. If I had to work, I just cannot imagine that. Around 1pm my head was just exploding and I had the worst headache ever. The withdrawal was awful to the point I had to go to sleep early afternoon praying for a relief I will have after waking up again. It was better later but still not the best. I felt irritated and fatigue. So if you want to try this challenge, make yourself a favor and start it during your day off.
The next day was so much better and actually I started to feel better than before quitting coffee. I felt rested in the morning and I slept better. However, I had to go to bed much earlier than usual. I just felt tired. Second and third day were also good. I was productive and I went through them smoothly. At the end of my third day I really missed the taste of coffee though. However, I was so motivated to last without coffee as much as I could that I didn’t drink it. At my fourth day I didn’t remember that my daily morning routine consisted of making myself coffee first. It felt good to just drink water. However on the fifth day of my challenge I had so many things to do that I just had to make myself a coffee late afternoon to not fall asleep and to finish things I had to do.

My first coffee after quitting drinking it for five days tasted totally different. I made it less strong and it still tasted too much like fine espresso. When it kicked in, it really felt like an energy drink. Well, it means that sometimes it is just good to leave something for a bit to have a better taste of it later. Totally recommend to do that!
Edited: It’s been almost 2 weeks after the challenge and I can say that I drink less coffee now. I also enjoy more every cup of it. I don’t know if It has a connection with my coffee challenge as well but I can be more concentrated and productive on my works now than previously. It feels like restarting my brain again to make it work better. Also coffee kicks in better now than before as my pre workout.
Caffeine addition affecting your health
Caffeine has a huge affect on your health. They say it is a myth that coffee and other caffeine stimulants might be addictive but the true is that when the body lacks of it you feel totally different. Caffeine stimulates your nervous system and unfortunately, drinking 2-3 cups of coffee a day can have a big impact on it. Withdrawal might be painful but it is worth to check how your body reacts. You will feel more sleepy but at the end of day two or three you will sleep so much better. You won’t have also problem to wake up early without setting the alarm. To be honest, since completing this challenge of quitting caffeine I never put my alarm on and I feel really good about it.
